Rowan Coffee

What we love about this coffee

Bow Smith (one of the co-owners of Rowan along with Holden Curran), is one of our best friends in the coffee industry. Bow is one of the most talented roasters and coffee pros we’ve had the chance to spend time with, so when Bow told us he was beginning to roast for Rowan, we immediately started planning on how we could get his coffee inside of our boxes. We’re excited to share this lovely Pink Bourbon with you all!

How we're brewing it

If you’ve been a subscriber from Roastful for a while, you’ve had coffee from Ilse Coffee. We would recommend approaching this coffee in a similar manner as you would an Ilse Coffee- it’s a high acid coffee with more complexity that shines as you push ratio out farther!

Loveless

Samii Bedessa #1

What we love about this coffee

We’re stoked to partner with Loveless this month. We’ve admired their packaging and brand for a little bit now (how could you not) so when we got to taste their coffee, we were excited to find that the coffee lived up to it all!

How we're brewing it

Loveless is on the lighter side of the coffees we serve here in our Roastful boxes. Lighter coffees often times have slightly longer brew times due to lower solubility, and since this coffee is so aromatic, we’d actually recommend letting it sit ground in a closed container for about 10 minutes before brewing- this is going to allow the coffee to continue to degas and increase the flow of water through the brew bed! Look to use larger ratios to highlight the floral and delicate attributes in this coffee.

Boycott

Finca La Unica

What we love about this coffee

We were able to visit Boycott’s cafe in Memphis back in December and we were so impressed! Parainema is an interesting variety, one that has a high resistance to coffee leaf rust yet a high potential for cup quality. We often find high acid cups with Parainema, but this naturally processed expression showcases some sweeter, more tropical tones.

How we're brewing it

This coffee is super soluble, so brewing it should be rather easy. Look to highlight the dense sweetness that’s available in this coffee by keeping ratios relatively tight (1:15 ratios for bypass brewing methods like V60 or Kalita, 1:16 ratios for non bypass brewing methods like the Tricolate).
